I got this book for Christmas, and as always, I was very excited to read it. At first the book was a bit intimidating. ‘Blood ’ and ‘bone’? I have read many gory books, so I wasn’t totally scared to read the book.

As soon as I read the first few chapters, I knew I was going to enjoy this book. Girls training to fight in secret?

Risking lives one after another? Just what I liked.

WARNING ⚠️ SPOILER ALERT!! The next few paragraphs contain spoilers for this book, if you are planning on reading the book, and sensitive to spoilers, I recommend not reading the next two paragraphs.

Zeile’s mother was killed when Zeile was only six just because her mother had magic. She was a magi, a Reaper who could summon long dead souls. Her father, who used to be the greatest warrior she knew, is now a shadow of himself, too frail to do anything, haunted by the night her mother passed. Magic is forbidden, but that isn’t a problem for Zeile, because her magic is lost. It is inside of her, swirling around, just waiting to be unlocked.

Everything is normal, well, as normal as can be when an evil dictator is in control, and every day hundreds of magi are lost; until Zeile catches the attention of two not nice guards, she accidentally bumps into the princess, and to top it all off, a prince burns down her village. She, her brother Tzain, the princess and prince, are pulled into a world much unlike their normal, barely peaceful one.

The spoilers are over! You are welcome to read this next part.

This book has a bit of everything. Sorrow, thrills, adventure, forbidden feelings and most importantly, magic. I absolutely loved this book! I’m not just saying this randomly, and even though I have read a LOT of books, this was one of the best ones!!! I would recommend this book for children who are older than 10, who love fantasy, adventure and are okay with a bit of death and war.
